Dude I got chill on my spine. This is insanely cool. I'd always wondered what I could do with what Stormdrums 3 and omg...this is the creepiest inspiration. Those wooden repeated hits always get me and I feel like I'm about to get grabbed. Every gesture you place hits me with a shiver and I can't control myself. I love how some hits pan from center to right or left and that repeated gong to set the motion, the next wave of sounds to scare and capture me.
This feels like I'm in a room with someone. Someone I don't want to be with. (spookyy) Awesome work here!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks a lot, dude!
Stormdrums 3 sure has a lot of very interesting and experimental stuff in there. I'll have a lot of fun with it, hehhe...
I find that the sounds sound very real, almost like you're indeed, there in a room. Cool thing is, that panning and all, I didn't really have to do anything! Stormdrum 3 comes pretty much pre-panned, so that everything fits together. It's pretty rad XD

Glad to hear that you liked it :)

This very close to the original. I felt it lacked a bit of fullness, but thats not enough to disregard the work put into having every detail in the song. From the brass to the percussion rolls a the 1:30 mark and the violins playing on top ever so subtly. Really awesome work!

The piano would sound great on its own. And what skills! ;)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks, man! Much appreciated :)

Things I liked:
The best and that nice back and fourth pad. The piano has a weird yet appealing texture to it. Sounds like you low passed some frequencies?
Your sound design is very good. They compliment each other really well!
I can really see this as some background Music or an upbeat adventure!

Things I didn't like:
the fact that it's background music. I wanted something more. This track goes on and on and I don't loose or gain tenstion. However maybe that was your point. I won't go into detail too much as someone else has already mentioned it.
If I might shoot an idea, is to maybe create another sound and have a call and response effect. You do this already with your two main synths already but maybe you could create a solid melody line and then transition into a verse that's maybe half the speed? Not tempo tho, just how your melody develops. Fast and upbeat in the chorus and slower in the verse.

All in all, you got a solid foundation for track. And your arrangement and sound design. Do not go un-noticed!
Well done and keep on rockin!

SierraRising responds:

Yeah, it was mostly meant as background music, though I'm sorry it left a lot to be desired in tension and climaxes. I love the idea of another element, and I think I might have already have one in mind for future projects.
Many thanks for the review, it helps me a lot!

Great now I'm stuck between your jungle one and this one. haha. I like how ambient this one is, but the jungle had such a neat groove. In this one I feel like I walked into a mansion and a skeleton in a top hat is asking me "would you like some tea?" *slowly pulls chair.
Anyway. This doesn't get boring to quickly, and the new subtle and noticeable changes throughout give it a nice character!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I know that if one really wants to, once can find a jungle sound in this. But the atmosphere is too different from what one would expect a jungle to sound like, I feel.
It has a bit of a light horror/comedy sound to it for sure :P

Thank you for your review :)

Sick Groove man. I was debating trying for this contest, but I got so busy. Anyway. You used some interesting elements. Your main melody is sweet. Awesome job! I should walk into a bar with this playing. haha

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Ahaha, so everyone is reviewing this track now? Cool :p
Yeah, it has some neat ideas, but unfortunately I never realy went anywhere with them. Actually, the theme for the second track is to make pub music with only a Fluid GM bank soundfont :D

First thing - that reversed string..I think? Sounds awesome
I Don't know why the strings go down in amplitude - as if they are side chained? It grew on me as it went, but quite odd. If it was used as an effect then ignore that comment.

I could see this track longer and the strings could really bring a strong element to the mix. but alas, a minute is all I get.
Good mix though. Great work!

Being this is for a video I won't review the arrangement because its for picture. - Tho it is very nice and I loved it.

Mix wise, nothing was too loud, it was very well balanced and spread nicely. Maybe the violins could have been a db or 2 louder.

When the choir came in I was hoping to here some low end slowly crescendo. Like a low cello with bass and then when it rises at :50 really make it full and loud and the end tail of the strings can really descend after its nice impact.
Again nothing major! Good Job and keep going!

LawnReality responds:

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it. :)

Interesting sound design I must say. You got a true understanding at blending your synths together.
Then you transition into a piano riff and THEN a dark atmosphere with that awful heartbeat. Man what a trip.
The FX and how they pan are just amazing. It's like after every transition, a scene is playing in my head, yet its not connected. but that doesn't matter.

At 5:41 when it gets full again sounded awesome (as you tagged it)

I have nothing to complain about from what I heard in my phones. But given what others are saying in their monitors, maybe there is something to take note on - car speakers if possible? - I find that a car always tells you EVERYTHING thats wrong with a mix.

All in all, it was pretty sick! You really know how to accomplish your stereo spread.
Great work!

Onefin responds:

Thanks for the review!

The intention was for the song to tell a connected story of a generally archetypal journey, with the whole call to adventure, rising action, challenges and temptations, ordeal, climax, etc kind of thing. But the actual content of the scene was left ambiguous, for the listener to decide on. Glad you liked it!

5:41 is truly my favorite part of the song, despite possible poor mixing.

Car speakers? How do I even play this song in a car I have no idea :/ Seems like a good idea, but I would have to ask permission to use my parents' car. Overall, I'm pretty sure my mixing is terrible, as it usually is. I mix through headphones on my computer. And they aren't good headphones...

Stereo spread? I can barely hear most stereo on my headphones unless it's panned over 75 percent to one side. I do remember panning things, though, so I'm glad it turned out well!

Once again, thanks for the review! Feedback is appreciated. :)

You should make more stuff like this! You have a real good sense of jazzy chill grooves. I could totally see a sax player soloing over top of this.

SekiraRenatus responds:

Hey man, thanks a lot! I'm pretty new to this, but I've been a long fan of Weather Report and Chet Baker; I will definitely be doing more! :3
